Jefferson Lee for State Assembly District 9
By admin | April 17, 2008
CAMPAIGN THEME: “Bringing Traditional Conservative Values to Nevada” I am a mainstream Conservative/Republican candidate. I believe that we need to reapply the same traditional values that brought forth greatness to this nation and to this political party.
BACKGROUND:I was raised in an abusive, dysfunctional, low income household in northern Indiana. My great grandmother raised me as a child and made a very positive impact on my life. Unfortunately, she became a victim of domestic homicide, So I had to learn to survive on my own at a young age. (1996 is when I became affiliated with downtown Las Vegas and I moved here in 2000)
EDUCATION: Fortunately, I was able to obtain a sports scholarship and attended Palm Beach Atlantic College in south Florida (Played baseball, tennis) I Graduated with a BS. Degree in a clinical Psychology and earned an Associate Degree in Sociology and Gerontology. (Studied Russian and Spanish languages).
RELIGION/PUBLIC SERVICE: I regularly attend the “First Good Shepherd” Lutheran church in downtown Las Vegas. If you are looking for a good church home then I would like to encourage you to visit here. I give various support to the “Voice” Foundation, which is sponsored by the MGM/Mirage corp. (FirstGoodShepard.org)
EMPLOYMENT: Currently, I work for the MGM/Mirage Corp. as a NY NY casino Security Officer. I have a total of 8 1/2 yrs in the Law Enforcement field. (Airport Security, Factory Police, Juvenile Corrections) Previously, I supervised in the airline business for 10 yrs. And I worked as a Q.C…Inspector in the construction industry.
ELECTION HISTORY: I have ran unsuccessfully for the following positions… 1994 Indiana State District Rep, 2003 Las Vegas city council, 2004 Clark Co. School Board trustee, 2006 State University Regent.
CAMPAIGN SUMMARY: Just like in sports, if you do not win it all, do you just throw in the towel and quit? Or do you make the necessary adjustments to increase your chances of winning the title next time?! Although losing is never an enjoyable experience, I have made some positive accomplishments, as well.
The Indiana State Legislation proposed a hazardous waste/environment bill, directly from my campaign agenda. I have also been able to raise my voting totals (+37%). Since my first elections here (5%-42%) During the 2006 regent election, I easily won my primary and received a reputable police and veterans endorsement.
WHY I AM RUNNING FOR ASSEMBLY:Regardless of political affiliations, the majority of politicians cater their support towards “lobbyist” and “special interests” groups. These political groups help finance the candidates election efforts and they expect “political pull” on their behalf, in return For example, if you were to analyze Nevada’s main social dilemmas these were a result of poor planning and over development. (The nations worst educational system, and inadequate infrastructure, water shortages, budget deficits… etc) The various lobby groups, in favor of land development, received priority treatment over the best interest of the politicians constituents. There is nothing wrong with wanting to promote growth and progress.
However, this concept must be done in moderation to insure that you have a solid infrastructure to support growth. What really fuels me to run for public office is to read liberal newspaper articles that fully support and endorse virtually all of the incumbents every election. In reality, if every single endorsed incumbent is doing such a great job why is Las Vegas ranked on or near the bottom with so many national statistics? This does not even include all of the political corruption/ethic violations that continue to surface? Therefore, I have composed my own political platform to help get this fine state on the right track.
PRIORITY #1 (THE ECONOMY):
I would like to lead a major effort to repeal Nevada’s, corrupt, “right to work law”. (Legislative council, Legal Representation petitioning) This law is like an economic cancer that needs to be detected and removed from our society.
The bottom line is that if you have the basic management skills you can legally terminate an undesirable employee anyway. In reality, this law was adopted to give illegitimate employers less overall accountability. If an employer can terminate their employees “at will” they can create a high turn over rate to keep the employee overhead cost down to minimum. For example, Las Vegas is the fastest growing city with an unlimited number of job openings, but has an above national average unemployment rate? Secondly, this law allows an employer to violate many other laws, in the process. Most workplace violations never get reported to authorities because of intimidation and retaliation of losing their job. UNION SHOPS are not immune neither! Many UNION reps have cut, cozy deals with management to increase probationary periods up to 6 months and often do not intervene with employee disputes. Consequently, unless this law is removed it will be very difficult for the average resident to find a steady, decent job here.
PRIORITY #2 (THE STATE BUDGET DEFICIT):
Although the democratic plan is to raise the various taxes as usual, my revised lottery proposal is much better for Nevada. The bottom line with state lotteries is that they bring in a tremendous amount of revenue. Having analyzed other state lottery budgets and expense reports, the problem is that too much of the incoming revenue does not reach to where it was intended .
(The “too many hands in the cookie jar” theory) What immediately caught my attention was noticing the over-inflated employee salaries, especially if the lottery drawing was televised. Therefore, I have decided ti apply the business concept of contracting much of the work of Nevada’s casinos. The casino gaming industry already has all the necessary tools to aid with running a state lottery system. This concept would lower the overall employee overhead cost and will bringing additional revenue to Nevada’s casino business, In the process the lottery structure would be composed of 5 different “Scratch off:” ticket games, each representing a particular budget plan. (Education, law enforcement,Highway/road development AB-506, the environment and social services) The reasoning behind this pre-determined format is to save time and conflicts with deciding where to direct the incoming revenue. Secondly, it gives the consumer an option to where they want their money to go if they do not have a winning ticket.
PRIORITY #3 (NO ELECTION REFORM BILLS):
To make a long story shirt, Assemblyman Tic Sergerblom wants to allow voter registration on Election Day? The local media gave Mr. Sergerblom much praise for “making it easier for voters to register and vote” The bottom line is that election Dept, has already made it more then convenient to register and vote, plus early voting has been a success as well. The purpose of having a voter registration deadline is to have significant time to validate the applications. If this bill is approved it would open the floodgates to numerous, fraudulent voting scenarios. Every single current and former election worker that I have talked to, stated this is a very bad bill. Hopefully, I can help convince other legislators to vote against this bill, ahead of time.
The other bill proposal by Mr. Sergerblom is to remove the current “alphabetical” candidate listing on the voting ballot? This new proposal would involve having the Sec. Of State (supposedly?) Draw at random the candidate listings. There us no question that if my opponents last name would have begun with the letter “A” this bill would have never been composed. Secondly, there has never been any actual proof that voters only read the first name anyway.
“NO SOLIDARITY” WITH THIS ELECTION RACE:
There is no question that the Culinary Union political reps, will follow tradition by endorsing my Democratic opponent this election however, I believe that since I am a casino employee myself that I can better represent you in Carson City. I have an unlimited number of Culinary Union friends, throughout the valley and I have heard your voices and the concerns. As a result, I believe that my political platform is much better suited for your needs.
QUE PASA AMIGOS?The question that I continue to ask Hispanic voters is “What has the Democratic party done to benefit you over the year?” This political party continues to give you “lip service” and “broken promises” just to obtain your vote every election?
Hispanic voters also should realize that most of their employers are owned by the Republican Party businessmen. For example, the MGM/Mirage Corp. employs the largest number of Hispanic workers in the State of Nevada. In comparison the Republican Party has almost the same ideals and values as Mexico’s “PAN” Party
To be honest, government reps do not want o actually solve your current immigration crisis. The reason is that there is too much money to be made by the current situation, without having to give anything back in return. I have done much missionary work in Mexico and Honduras, I have been to 10 different Latin American countries, and I speak decent Spanish. Therefore, I believe that I would be a much better Assemblyman for Hispanic voters.
