Good High Impact Bills
Looking to the fact that there are 600+ Assembly Bills on the table from the last legislative session, I have tried to narrow down AB’s that will have a positive impact on the average las vegas resident. For example, I do not beleive that voters in my district are concerned about bills that pertain to huntingBig Horn Sheep in Elkoor if a Viginia City-Carson City railroad proposal is approved.
AB 2 -(Auto Repair Shops)- This AB proposal would further penalize auto repair shops that do additional work and/or overcharge customers without prior knowledge on concent.
AB 8 -(Changes with jail release/holding time)- This AB proposal would hold drivers that are charged with driving a vehicle while intoxicated or under a controlled substance. The driver will not be released on bailuntill they are fully coherent.
AB 14, AB 23, AB 81, AB 180 -(Tougher laws against graffiti and property vandalism)- These AB’s proposed are necessary to try to stop this type of cowrdly crime.
AB 15 -(Child Abduction Prevention)- This AB proposal supports the “Uniform Child Abduction Act”.
AB 17 -(Stalking and Harrasment)- This AB proposal allows extended orders of protection for victims of stalking and harrasment.
AB 38 -(Parole Violations)- This AB proposal penalises prison parole violaters by having them forfeit their good time credits earned towards reducing prison time.
AB 64 -(School Bus Safety)- This AB proposal would increase restrictions that require all vehicles to stop when a school bus is displaying flashing stop lights.
AB 79 -(Campaign Ethics)- This AB proposal prohibits public employees from using gov’t time, property, equipment or materials for political campaigning pruposes.
AB 83 -(Homeless/Hate Crime Bill)- This AB proposal classifies violent crimes against the homeless as hate crimes.
AB 102/AB 129 -(Restricts Eminent Domain)- This AB proposal restricts the ability for the gov’t to obtain private property from residents.
AB 106 -(No cell phones for prisoners)- This AB Proposal prohibits prisoners from using personal cell phones and other telecommunication devices
AB 117 -(Restraints on protective orders)- This AB proposal would prohibit someone who is arrested for parole violations, Stalking, Harassment, Domestic violence… ect. from being immediatly released on bail if under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
AB 115 -(Toxic Emission from Mining)- This AB proposal would allow the state to regulate and reduce the amount of toxic emission from mining. The main goal is to reduce emissions 25% by 2012.
AB 130 -(Autism Scholorship Program)- This AB proposal would establish an Autism Scholorship Program.
AB 141 -(The Chop Block Bill)- This AB proposal targets “Chop Block” operations that remove and alter various vehicle ID numbers for resale.
AB 149/AB 150 -(Anti-Meth Bills)- These AB’s proposals would help curb Methamphitamines production and distrubution, plus support programs for meth users.
AB 157 -(all Day Kindergarten)- This AB proposal would allow all day kindergarten to be available in all 340 Nevada Elementary Schools at a cost of $73 million.
AB 159 -(Funeral Crashing)- This AB proposal would prohibit certain demonstrations held during funeral services and memorials.
AB 183 -(Senior Citizen and Veteran Legislative Comittee)- This AB proposal would establish a special legislative for senior citizens and veterans, so that they be better represented on issues.
AB 188, AB 261, AB 263 -(Child Haven Bills)- These AB proposals requires state licensing and more accountability for case facilities such as “Child Haven”.
AB 226 -(Crimes against the elderly)- This AB proposal would increase penalties for crimes against senior citizens
AB 229 -(Improving Education)- This AB proposal would establish a pilot program for mentor teachers to improve the quality of our education.
AB 267 -(Televising School Board Meetings)- -Segerblom Sponsored Bill- This AB proposal would support televising school board meetings. Although my opponent sponsors this AB I believe that this is a great idea to get the general public more involved with the CCSD.
AB 283 -(Health Care Facilities)- This ab proposal requires better patient information and overall treatment in persons cared for in health care facilities.
AB 300 -(Weapons used to commit a crime)- Segerblom Sponsored Bill- This ab proposal increases the penalities when weapons are used in a crime.
AB 301 -(The Jerry Airola Bill)- This AB proposal increases the eligibility for a candidate, who wishes to run for County Sheriff.
AB307 -(The aircraft laser bill)- This AB proposal prohibits people from directing laser lights and shining bright lights towards various aircraft.
AB 318 -(School Literacy Programs)- This AB proposal supports a in-school and after-school literacy program.
AB 340 -(The Runaway Toxic Railroad Boxcar Bill)- This AB proposal would increase safety and security standards with railroad transportation.
AB 386 -(Cheerleader Bill)- This AB proposal would require certain qualifications for cheerleaders/Spirit squad coaches. For the last 3 years, there has been more injuries from cheerleading incidents than with any other extra curricular activity.
AB 387 -(Public School Physical Examinations)- This AB proposal requires full physical examinations for students before they enroll for a school year.
AB 395 -(English Language Assistance)- This AB proposal supports a pilot program for helping teach children with limited english langauge skills.
AB 404 -(No credit supports for Insurers)- This AB proposal would prohibit insurance compnaies from using credit support to determine rates.
AB 421 -(Organized Theft Rings)- This AB proposal increases the penalties against organised theft rings that target retailers.
AB 428 -(Identity Theft Bill)- This AB proposal would require increased penalties for those convicted of identity theft crimes.
AB 439 -(Affordable Housing)- This AB proposal would require local gov’t to support a master plan for affordable housing.
AB 455 -(Supporting those with disabilities)- This AB proposal grants $12 million to give various means of support towards those with disabilities, such as Opportunity Village.
AB 456/AB 468 -(Hospital Billing Restrictions)- This AB proposal prohibits hospitals from over charging their patients for unused services, medicine, and equipment…etc.
AB 521/AB 523 -(Fraud)- This AB proposal increase the penalties with insurance fraud, along with other types of fraud and racheteering.
AB 532 -(Credit and Debit card regulations)- This AB proposal restricts fees and over charges on credit and debit cards.
AB 552 -(Abandones Vehicles on Public Property)- This AB proposal authorizesconstables to collect fees from removing abandoned vehicles. Abandoned vehicles have beena real nuisance here in the valley and this law is needed, in return.
AB 564 -(New Scholorship Programs)- This AB proposal funds new scholarships programs for our state educated system.
